Clinton County Courthouse COVID-19 Response

Beginning March 17 through Monday, March 30, 2020, the Clinton County Courts of the Fourth Judicial Circuit will be operating at a reduced capacity performing only essential functions.

This response is out of an abundance of caution to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 in an attempt to reduce the possibility of spreading the disease. Kimberly G. Koester, chief judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit, signed the administrative order on Monday.

While keeping the courts available, all proceedings must be consistent with public safety as well as any further policy directives from federal, state and local public health advisories.

Until further notice, the following Clinton County cases and court proceedings will be continued to a different date to be determined by the court (the Circuit Clerk’s office will provide notice to all litigants of the dates their cases will be continued to):

  • All Civil and non-custodial jury trials;
  • All Traffic (TR) and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Cases;
  • All Criminal Misdemeanor (CM) cases;
  • All Ordinance (OV) cases;
  • All Small Claims (SC) cases;
  • All Family (F) and Divorce (D) court cases;
  • All Child Support cases;
  • All Law Magistrate (LM, L) cases;
  • All Juvenile cases (except as outlined below).

The following court proceedings will be held as scheduled, with appearances expected for all litigants unless travel or health exemptions apply:

  • All in-custody cases, including bond settings;
  • All Criminal Felony (CF) cases with time constraints;
  • All Juvenile Detention and Shelter Care hearings;
  • All hearings involving Emergency and Plenary Orders of Protection;
  • Any other emergency-type hearing at the discretion of the Clinton County Resident Circuit Judge Stan Brandmeyer.

If you are an attorney or litigant and have a scheduled case, appointment or are otherwise required to appear at the courthouse in connection with a court case, but are unable to appear because of virus restrictions, please contact the Clinton County Circuit Clerk’s office at (618) 594-6615.
